The Donkey Boys

Clyde, Gus, Buck, and Hank — the donkey boys — are our first rescues and residents. Each one has their own story and we are so grateful that they found their way to their forever home here!

These boys each have very distinct personalities but are all so full of life, curiosity, and love.

  • Clyde: Clyde has always been a curious and docile donkey but we’ve also seen him let his guard down significantly since his arrival. Where he may have been a bit hesitant before, he is now almost always the first one to greet you and ask for some ear scratches. Clyde came to us from Florida where he was found wandering on vacant land that was owned by a developer. Neighbors got word that the developer planned to shoot him and called a national donkey rescue to intervene. Fortunately, the donkey rescue was able to save Clyde and safely bring him north to our sanctuary. Clyde is the donkey with a black nose!

  • Gus: Gus is a sweet and snuggly and always up for petting. His story carries a touch of tragedy, as he lost several of his horse companions at a previous sanctuary. He had been relocated multiple times before finally finding his way to our sanctuary. We are overjoyed that he can now call this his forever home! You can often find him playing with his buddy, Buck, or following his humans around in the pasture. Gus is the donkey with a dark brown coat and white nose!

  • Buck: Buck is the gentle giant of our group! He was a bit shy when he arrived here but has really blossomed into a warm and affectionate guy. His previous owner, unable to care for him any longer, had to make the difficult decision to give him up. Buck is a sweet, gentle, and loving creature. He has a heartwarming habit of approaching you, looking you in the eye, and thoroughly enjoying a good rub on his face or ears. Buck is the big grey donkey with a white nose!

  • Hank: Hank is a very spirited and funny guy. He adores giving donkey hugs, snuggling up with us, and is constantly rearranging things around the pasture. Hank is a wonderful donkey that is both independent and also loves to be loved. He came to us from a sanctuary that, unfortunately, had to close its doors. We absolutely love having him here and the laughter he brings into our lives. Hank is the smaller white donkey with a white and grey face!

The Bees

We started beekeeping as a way to support the ecosystem and promote biodiversity. It has been such an incredibly fascinating and rewarding hobby that we love to share with others!

Bees are vital pollinators that are critical in the reproduction of a wide variety of plants. The plants that bees pollinate provide habitat and food for both wild and domesticated animals, contributing to a balanced and thriving ecosystem. By enhancing local flora through pollination, bees help maintain the ecological balance, which is crucial for the well-being of animal residents. Many plants that rely on bee pollination produce fruits, seeds, and nuts that serve as food sources for various wildlife species. Keeping bees on the property will help with the long-term health and balance of the environment, benefiting both the sanctuary's animal residents and the broader ecological community.

We have plans to share beekeeping with the public as an educational opportunity and also share the honey that they produce to help raise funds to support the sanctuary.

Lucy Girl

Lucy is our resident “farm dog” - we use that term loosely :). She has been with us since 2016 and joined us in the move to this land in June of 2021.
By breed, Lucy is a herding dog and is super athletic. She has a seemingly endless amount of energy that she loves to expend by chasing sticks, running through the fields and woods here, jumping into any body of water she finds (including mud puddles), and all things outdoors. She’s been on lots of adventures, visited 10 different states, and never turns down an opportunity to go swimming.

She is a quick friend to anyone she meets and has brought an immense amount of joy to our lives.
